CECELIA is a dynamic, resourceful, passionate, performing teaching professional who is a Dallas born, NYC groomed, LA blooming actress who has appeared on Broadway in MULE BONE and on numerous off-Broadway, regional and international stages. She has guest starred on CROSSING JORDAN, WANTED, THE OFFICE, SEX AND THE CITY, THE CHRIS ROCK SHOW, THE APOLLO, THE RICKI LAKE SHOW, LAW AND ORDER and L&O: SVU as well as numerous feature and independent films. She has also appeared in many national and regional commercials. CECE is currently touring her one-woman rites-of-passage “comedy-doc” show, WATERMELON—GIT IT WHILE IT’S HOT!!! As a Director, CECELIA is a member of The Women’s Project Directors’ Forum and The Lincoln Center Theatre Directors’ Lab, NYC. As a Spoken Word Artist, CECE has published and produced works “BROWN GAL’S RISING”, “JUST AS I AM” and “JUKEBOX POETRY” to public and critical acclaim. She loves to “edu-tain” children of all ages as a Teaching Artist, as Great Gramzi the Great Storyteller, as KOO KOO the Klown, and now performing the A W E Series, where she transforms into great African and African-American women of Endeavors.

A W E Series ! ! !

African and African-American Women of Endeavors vignettes of African and African-American Women whose endeavors have shaped our culture, attitudes, behavior and belief systems. Vignettes and activities include:

  • Nefertitti- impacting the God system (initiate ceremony);
  • Winnie Mandela-Apartheid Slayer (South African work song);
  • Sojourner Truth-slave turned abolitionist turned suffragette (speeches and songs),
  • Cathy Williams—the first female Buffalo Soldier (ride a “horse”; listen, dress);
  • Dr. Mrs. Coretta Scott King-First Lady of the Civil Rights Movement speeches and songs);
  • Shirley Chisholm—first African-American female elected to Congress and first African-American
    female to run for President (voter registration/mock election);
  • Ruby Dee-The Leading Lady of Theatre (photo album & 2 Ways to count to 10)
  • The Williams Sisters-Venus & Serena—from Compton to Tennis Crowns (tennis lesson);
  • Mae Jemison—the first African-American female astronaut (mock space walk);
  • Queen Latifah—from hip-hop to Oscar (Karaoke lyrics).
