SOUTH AMERICAN ADVENTURE ASSEMBLY FOR K-8
GEORGETTE’S SOUTH AMERICAN ADVENTURE

This assembly program introduces the countries south of the United States, its music, fauna, peoples, artwork and artifacts through stories, songs and extensive hands-on tables. Songs are taught in Spanish to students, teachers and parents in an easy, memorable way. Children are taught the names of instruments from Peru, how the Argentine cowboy used “bolos”and how the Venezuelan “cuatro” received its name. They will see and touch the scale of the largest fresh water fish in the world, the arapaima, which lives in the Amazon River. Everyone will learn about the Mexican molinillo, the Aztec introduction of chocolate, and a dance and song that will reinforce the use of this chocolate beating utensil.

The formation of the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific and the birds and reptiles that inhabit them, how they evolved and how the buccaneers captured the giant tortoises for food are introduced prior to talking about the various indigenous peoples of Ecuador. South America and Mexico become real, they are pointed out on a giant map and children are invited up to play instruments, lead children in movements and dances and to assist in storytelling.
