Suni Paz Programs and Information

Born into an extraordinarily talented Creole Argentine-Italian-Catalonian family of writers, musicians, linguists and poets, Suni Paz started playing the guitar, writing songs, singing in choirs, and at family parties at age 12. From 1960 to 1963 she lived in Chile. In 1967, she moved her family to California where she designed a curriculum for elementary schools presenting Latin American culture through songs, stories and dances. She did concerts across the U.S., Puerto Rico, Mexico and Europe. This began her teaching career in the United States. Ten years later, Suni completed an MA from Rutgers University and teaching credentials form New York City, received several awards and a Fulbright. In 1997 Suni returned to California to live in Glendale.

She chose her name, Suni, which means lasting from the Quechua (Andean) language, so as to be able to disseminate the rich indigenous cultures of the Americans in lyric, rhythms, and instruments such as the charango, bombo and caja. Paz is a last name found in every Latin American country. It means peace. Singing and playing rhythms from all of the Americas as well as bringing families and children to share her stage have been her trademark. Educating while entertaining is her passion.

Suni has written more than four hundred songs, all of which has been recorded and published by various companies. She has set the music of about two hundred songs to the lyrics of famous writers like Alma Flor Ada and Esabel Campoy. Suni Paz has sung in Libraries, communities, and schools, at farm workers rallies and at colleges, universities and festivals in the United States, Latin America and Europe.
