Children’s Directory

  1. This directory features programming for preschool, k-5 and family audiences.
  2. It is arranged by performer’s last name or the name of their company, not by the name of the program.
  3. NEW for 2010 are advertising pages that will be added to the inside front and back cover as well as market place ads that can better explain your offerings to the libraries.

Eligibility Guidelines

  1. Participation is open to all artists who have previously participated in the County of Los Angeles Library Showcases and Directories.
  2. You will accept the County Libraries’ payment policy (6-8 weeks after a performance is given).
  3. Artists must submit to the county librarian on the day of their performance, an original invoice with correct date and location of performance; a grand fee total listed (no separate fees for travel, arts and crafts supplies, etc.); a Social Security Number or Federal Tax I.D. Number listed; and that the fees charged on the invoice must remain consistent with the fees listed on the application and in the resource guide.
  4. The County of Los Angeles requires ONE SET FEE for each area listed below for program(s) artists will be offering the library. There are no separate fees for mileage or materials.
  5. All artists must be available for the Los Angeles County Metro Area, all libraries except Catalina and the High Desert (Lancaster, Palmdale) which are optional.
  6. FEE GUARANTEE: The Fee Listed in the directory for the program listed must be guaranteed for all programs booked for summer reading programs in 2010 at the County of Los Angeles Libraries.
  7. Only those artists listed in the directory will be allowed to participate in the online showcase.
  8. The program demonstrated must be a sample of each artists program listing (for the price, content, performer, area and content). If performers demonstrate programs as a duo or as group, the duo or the group is who must perform the program at the library. Do not demonstrate anything that would require you to change, alter or increase your pricing to the libraries.
  9. Available for Summer Programming. You must be available for general bookings for the summer of 2010. If you book programs for summer and then cancel them due to out of town booking you may not be eligible to participate in the future.

New Artist Information:

If you are a New Artist we request that you also submit the following information. You can also place a request for an audition with Susan Muller SusanM@gw.colapl.org (a free program at a County of Los Angeles Library that will be critiqued and evaluated by an artist panel and if accepted, you may submit an application). Here are the requirements:

  1. You must have or obtain a County of Los Angeles Vendor number. You can email SusanM@gw.colapl.org for more information on how to obtain this.
  2. You must submit a brief, 1 paragraph biography of yourself, your program and your work in libraries, schools etc.
  3. If you are an artist with an arts organization, IE Music Center, The Center, etc. please specify:_____________________________ and you do not need to provide items listed below.

Choose one of the next three items to submit with your biography:

  • SENDING _____Three letters of recommendation form librarians who have seen your show (from any library district. Please mail these with check to DreamShapers)
  • SENDING_____ submit a video of your presentation (home quality is fine) for review.
  • Or the date, name of librarian and the County of Los Angeles Library at which you performed a scheduled audition.

New Artist Assistance:

If you are a NEW ARTIST, (having never appeared on this showcase or with limited library show experience) we suggest that you read the information on the Article page of our website. Many questions you have will be answered there. If after that you would like to discuss the showcase, your show, how you fit, what you should do or any other question you can contact one of the information volunteers for help.

Directory Requirements

  1. A completed application
  2. Photo to use in the directory (we will use clip art if this is not supplied)
  3. Payment in full by the due date.

Video Showcase Information

  1. We will be setting up video shoot dates for artists to showcase their programs for our online video showcase that will be promoted to all the County of Los Angeles Children’s and Young Adult librarians.
  2. We will be shooting on 11/16 and 12/10 from 9 to 4:00.
  3. Location TBD but if we cannot find a suitable stage it will be at 1206 W. Collins Ave, Orange, CA 92867
  4. If you are selected to showcase at the 2010 ILS showcase, there will be videotaping available at the showcase for posting online.
  5. You will only need to sign up one time and your video can be used for both ILS and County of Los Angeles Libraries.
  6. The fee charged for videotaping includes the costs for location, camera, sound, lights and posting to Performershowcase.com with direct links to your website.
  7. Each performer will be given set up time and 5 to 6 minutes to demonstrate your show.
  8. Time slots on the dates above are given on a first come / first serve basis (about 5 artists per hour).
  9. You can submit your own video footage but it will be subject to quality review before being accepted.
  10. Video will be posted on performershowcase.com library showcase through 12/2010.

3. Virtual Online Video Showcase for COLA Children’s
Note: Select this option if you are a Performer who will demonstrate at the COLA showcase and would like to be videotaped. The footage will be posted on our website performersvideoshowcase.com for year round viewing by librarians.

4. Video Shoot for the online showcase
You will receive a refund if you are selected to demonstrate in the COLA Showcase for the difference between #4 and #5.

5. Supply your own 5 minute or less video demo
Video is subject to quality review for acceptance.
You will receive a Refund, or you can apply it to #4 if rejected.

NOTE: Artists who wish to have an additional directory listing of a significantly different program (judged upon submission) in the same directory will receive 20% discount from their total directory listing price (this does not include advertising).

Warrantees

Your application will be processed for the directory with all care and effort. There are no expressed or written warrantees or guarantees as to accuracy for the listing or advertisement. We make every effort to be sure that the information is correctly taken from your applications and make at least 2 viewing dates available for all artists to go online, view their entry and advise us of any changes that will need to be made.

Important

  1. Everything (checks, applications, photos, new artist information) must be postmarked by 10/1/09 to receive “Early Bird Discounts” and must be postmarked by 11/1/09 to be included in the Directory.
  2. We will begin to post the directory on or about 10/15/09 for you to check for any errors that may have occurred to your listing. You can visit www.dreamshapers.org/libshow for links to the listing.
  3. If you have not received a confirmation of your application within one week of your submission please email kenf@dreamshapers.org or call (714) 771-1981 to check to be sure it has been received.
  4. Keep in mind that mailing in your check right away helps us if an application has not been received.
  5. BE SURE that you have filled out the application correctly and KEEP IN MIND that there is one flat fee for County of Los Angeles Libraries for each area and there is no separate listing for mileage fees.
  6. If you wish to be part of the Young Adult directories you must fill out a separate application.
