  • Young Adult (middle and high school ages)

Representatives from over one hundred libraries, schools and cities will be invited to attend.  Year round programs on all themes relating to books, reading and libraries are welcome and if your program is adaptable, the theme for the Young Adult Program for 2009:

Children’s – Be Creative at Your Library
Young Adult – Express Yourself at Your Library

Artist Participation and Directory Listing fees for 2009:

Young Adult Directory Fee - $25.00

These fees cover the cost of producing the showcase and directory.  The fee provides you with the ability to attend the showcase, display your information on tables, hand out literature and meet with librarians.  The fee DOES NOT guarantee you a showcase time slot.  For artists that do not get a time slot we do make available, as time permits, 3 minute presentations that are determined at the event.  Read the eligibility guidelines for more information on how performers are chosen for the showcase.

New Artist Assistance:

If you are a New Artist, (having never appeared on this showcase or with limited library show experience) we suggest that you read the information on the Articles page of our website.  Many questions you have will be answered there.  If after that you would like to discuss the showcase, your show, how you fit, what you should do or any other question you can contact one of the information volunteers for help.

Eligibility For Showcasing Guidelines

Inclusion in the directory does not guarantee a time slot in the showcase but does allow you to attend the event, distribute your materials and possibly showcase.  A wide variety of decisions go into the selection process to fill time slots.  Some of the basic guidelines Dream Shapers and the County of Los Angeles Libraries use for choosing artists are based on these factors:

1) Library Affordable Pricing: Shows under $200.00 1st priority; under $250.00 2nd priority; over  $300.00 will have third priority and under $350 will have very limited availability for slots but can be part of directory as some libraries have additional monies available to them.

2) New Artists, are given priority to showcase but please read the requirements ASAP so that you can meet County Library needs before your submission.

3) ALL ARTISTS (new artists once they have been accepted) must have a County of LA Vendor Number.  Email SusanM@gw.colapl.org

4) “Tried and True” artists who did not performed on the 2008 showcase and fit library affordable pricing as listed in #1 are given a priority along with new artists.

5) “Tried and True” artists who did not performed on the 2008 showcase but whose show is   markedly different from what they demonstrated the year before and not the same show recast with a new name. You can contact kenf@dreamshapers.org for clarification if needed.

6) Variety: we try to offer a wide variety of programs from Animals to Storytelling and from Music to Puppetry and place limitations on the number of artists each genre that we demonstrate.

7) Artist Availability: artists who provide programming to all areas that the County of Los Angles Libraries serve are given priority over those who go to limited areas.

8) Artists Programming: extra considerations are given to artists who provide programs that:

  • fit well with the summer reading theme
  • offer year round programming
  • bilingual presentations.

9) Agree to meet the County of Los Angeles Requirements.See below.

10) Warrantees: Your application will be processed for the directory with all care and effort.  There are no expressed or written warrantees or guarantees as to inclusion, accuracy or demonstration space given or agreed to by Dream Shapers with regards to any artists application, listing or showcase.  All monies are non-refundable once you have been included in the directory.  We will refund all monies to artists not included.

ALL PERFORMER REQUIREMENTSRead Carefully

All performers/presenters, wishing to take part in this year’s showcase, are asked to review the terms that the Los Angeles County Library is requiring.  Your application submission will indicate your acceptance of all these requirements:

  1. That you accept the County Libraries ’ payment policy (6-8 weeks after a performance is given)
  2. You must have a County of Los Angeles Vendor Number for the application this year.  It is part of the application.  If you do not currently have a vendor number or want more information about it email SusanM@gw.colapl.org to get more information on this.
  3. That artists must submit to the county librarian on the day of their performance, an original invoice with correct date and location of performance; a grand fee total listed (no separate fees for travel, arts and crafts supplies, etc.); a Social Security Number or Federal Tax I.D. Number listed; and that the fees charged on the invoice must remain consistent with the fees listed on the application and in the resource guide.
  4. The County of Los Angeles requires ONE SET FEE that includes any extra's or mileage for each area listed below for program(s) artists will be offering the library. If you have programs that require price variation, it must be laid out in the directory otherwise the price you offer must be the billing price to all County of Los Angeles Libraries for the upcoming year (see new fee guarantee below).
Los Angeles County Metro – All Artists must be available here
High Desert (Lancaster, Palmdale) – optional
    Catalina – optional
  5. NEW FEE GUARANTEE: The Fee Listed in the directory for the program listed must be guaranteed for all programs booked during and performed during 2009 at the County of Los Angeles Libraries (from January 1, 2009 to January 1, 2010) Performers who change the pricing of their program may not be eligible to take part in future showcases.
  6. Only those artists listed in the directory will be allowed to attend the showcase.
  7. The program demonstrated must be a sample of each artists program listing (for the price, content, performer, area and content). If performers demonstrate programs as a duo or as group, the duo or the group is who must perform the program at the library. Do not demonstrate anything that would require you to change, alter or increase your pricing to the libraries.
  8. Available for Summer Programming. You must be available for general bookings for the summer of 2009. If you book programs for summer and then cancel them due to out of town booking you may not be eligible to participate in the future.
  9. Out of State Performers who wish to participate must contact kenf@wesign.com before applying.

These terms are an effort to standardize how we all work together to provide programming to encourage literacy throughout The County of Los Angeles Library System. With current budgetary concerns, the fee structure is designed to allow each of the libraries as much programming as possible during the upcoming year.

NEW FOR 2009 SHOWCASES: We will be making an online viewing of your directory listing(s) available by 12/5/08 so that you can review for any mistakes. We will not allow general changes to text and pricing (different from your application) but will fix any contact content or typos or mistakes based on your application.
